Citizen Schools is an after school program that operates Monday through Thursday, from 3:45-6:15 pm. It is a national non-profit organization that began over 10 years ago in Boston, and today we are in 6 states, with 36 program sites, including four in Houston!

Our focus is on academic success and community building. Students work on homework in a safe, focused environment every day for 45 minutes. Our staff teaches weekly school success lessons on Mondays, and students participate in activities like arts and crafts, soccer, yoga, French, and board games on Wednesdays. In addition, volunteers from the community come on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work with students on projects in their career fields. This aspect of the program is called the apprenticeship. Apprenticeships this semester include Spoken Word Poetry, Building from the Ground Up, Animal Planet, Gardening, Cooking, Web Design, and much more!

Check the Sharpstown calendar for upcoming Citizen Schools’ events! We will be having a family potluck Thursday, October 18, and our end of the semester WOW! Showcase will be on Thursday, December 6. Call the school for more information: (713)778-3440!
